Our Rabbi & Rebbetzen

Rabbi Yehuda and Dinie Pink joined us in January ’94. At the time Rabbi Pink was the youngest communal Rabbi in the UK. He is now one of the longest serving Provincial Rabbis. He was educated in Manchester, then continued his studies in Israel where he was ordained as a Rabbi and Sofer (scribe) by a number of Rabbinical authorities. During his studies he spent several months running a community deep inside the former Soviet Union.

Rabbi & Mrs Pink are also the Co-Directors of Chabad Lubavitch of Solihull, the local branch of the International Lubavitch Movement.

Rabbi Pink serves as Prison Chaplain to four prisons and Jewish Chaplain to the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, he sits on the Executive Board of the Solihull Faith Forum, the Safer Solihull Board and the Crown Prosecution Service – West Midlands Local Scrutiny and Involvement  Panel. He is a member of the Hanholla (Board of Management) of Chabad Lubavitch UK and is the Co-Ordinator of the annual Conference of Chabad UK Rabbis as well as a trustee of a number of Charities.  He has lectured at Birmingham University and has given several talks on the BBC World Service and is also a regular columnist in the Birmingham Mail.

Rabbi Pink is the founder and convenor of the West Midlands Jewish Medical Ethics Forum and the Solihull Jewish Business Ethics Forum. Rabbi Pink has been awarded a MSc in Health Care Ethics and Law from the University of Birmingham, his studies were sponsored by the UJIA. In partnership with Birmingham Jewish Community Care he set up the Solihull Thursday Club, a place for Senior Citizens to meet in a social setting which was recognised for the excellence of its work with the award of The Queens Award for Voluntary Organisations, the equivalent of an MBE for charities. Rabbi Pink was honoured with the Mayor’s Award in 2014 recognising his outstanding contribution to civic life in Solihull.

Rabbi Pink is the author of Medicine and Morals published by JLI, the Jewish Learning Institute, the largest provider of Jewish Adult Education in the world. Rabbi Pink lectures on Jewish Medical Ethics to audiences nationally and internationally. Rabbi Pink is also the UK Field Representative for OK Kosher, one of the largest Kosher Certification Agencies in the world.

Dinie Pink trained as a teacher at the Beth Rivkah Teacher Training College in New York, where she grew up. She ran children’s camps in Atlanta, New York State, Rochester and Minnesota. She also taught for four years in New York before moving to England. She chairs the Solihull and District Hebrew Congregation Ladies Guild, teaches in the Cheder, organizes activities for young children and plays an active role in Shul affairs.

During their time with us, they have initiated a host of adult education programmes and social activities. Under their stewardship, the community has doubled in size and has greatly expanded its activities. For many years Rabbi and Mrs Pink ran a highly-successful, twice-yearly day-camp for children up to teens, which was attended by children from all around the West Midlands.

Rabbi & Mrs Pink have five children, Rivka, 21, Avrohom Yitzchok, 20, Chanoch, 16, Mendel, 13 and Shmuli, 11, who all play an active roll in the Shul activities.
