The Solihull and District Cheder, which is affiliated to the Community, has acquired a reputation for providing high quality education matched with individual attention which large Communities find hard to emulate.
There was a time when children had to be bribed or cajoled to attend Cheder. Fortunately this is a thing of the past, certainly in Solihull, where the large number of young children wanting to attend Cheder has led to the addition of a new class catering for 3-5 year olds. Dinie Pink, who is enjoying teaching the same age range that she taught for a number of years in New York before she moved to Solihull, teaches the class.
The new class has meant that former reading assistant Laura Bleetman has now moved up to teaching a class. Head Teacher, Rabbi Pink is delighted with his new teacher, who is the latest in a string of former pupils who have gone on to become teachers at the cheder.
Currently split into five classes by age, under the headship of our Rabbi, it provides a full syllabus from age four to Bar Mitzvah or Bat Chayil. The Cheder has a fully-stocked library, video library and state-of-the-art computer centre.
We currently have pupils from Solihull and surrounding areas and are always very happy to welcome more.
We have just started a post Bar/Bat-Mitzvah class for teenagers. We also run regular weekend sleep-overs for Cheder children.
Please contact Rabbi or Mrs Pink for more information.
The excellence of our Cheder has recently been acknowledged by the award of a a grant from the Birmingham Jewish Communal Trust Fund towards the purchase of resources for its pioneering Multimedia Resource Centre.
