Money Making Tips

The motto of the Solihull Hebrew Congregation is “The small community with the big heart that listens”. Despite our small size, we provide a wide range of religious and social activities that communities much larger than us would be proud of.

All this costs money, our small donor pool means that there is a limit how many times we can ask the same people for money. We have therefore come up with a number of initiatives that will not cost you any money and yet will help us raise funds.

We spend almost £2,000 per year on printing and postage. We would like to reduce the number of notifications that we sent by post. So if you are happy to receive mailings, yarzeit notifications or even the Hakol by email please make sure that we have an active email address and let us know what are happy to receive by email rather than post.

Many of us shop online, using the Shul Web Shop, will not cost you a penny more than shopping direct, indeed you will often save money with special offers exclusive to our shop and the Shul will earn a commission. We have also recently teamed up with a recycling company, and we will earn money for every inkjet and laser cartridge, mobile phone or PDA that is recycled via the shul, so next time you reload your printer, don’t throw out the old cartridge, drop it in to shul and we will earn some money.

The Shul Judaica store can supply almost anything you need, for yourself, or as a gift for someone else. If we do not have it in stock we can usually source it within a couple of days. Our prices are the same as London, and all profit goes to the Shul.

We have teamed up with the Inland Revenue to allow you to donate part or all of any tax refund to the shul. Simply enter the code EAT48YG on the form SA100 Charity – Giving your tax repayment to charity that you have received together with your tax return.

We have also registered with Utility Warehouse which can save you money on your utility bills and earn the shul commission at the same time.
